Should the first layer of burnt number be very detailed in values. Does the second layer mean just put the main color and don't blend until third layer? Thx God Bless

If I were to paint a portrait with oils (first time) do I let every layer dry completely or can I keep doing layers to help blend and shade?

Just letting anyone scrolling through the comments, what she did when mixing paint and mediums with paint, is bad. You should NEVER use a brush to mix acrylic OR oil paints with a brush, this makes the paint go up in the bristles in the brush and ruins the brush, always use a pallete knife when mixing acrylic or oil paints, a pallete knife won't get ruined and you can just wipe off the paint, a palette knife is made for mixing paint

Edit: a good video to check out is this one! https://youtu.be/QhYqBKAN-40
She explains a lot better than I do on why it's important to use a pallete knife

Did you have to wait for the first layer to dry before you proceeded to the second layer?

Very helpful. My friend and I are going to begin our first class with no experience at all. The supplies you suggested were important….we had no idea. We thought it was just brushes and oil paints. 🙂

Have just found this video Lena and just wanted to say thank you 🙂 . I love the positive mentoring at the end as well. It's encouraging, and does make me think, give it a go. Finally, what do you do with the left over medium mixture? can you keep it in a jar to use again? Or do you just discard it in the rubbish? Thanks again….PS your water still life with the lady in them…amazing!!!

Curves does not control the brightness, it controls the contrast.
