Did you put a ground on the paper before applying the watercolour and oils? If not, it could make the oil eventually rot the paper.

You can get a very similar effect with acrylics thinned with water and airbrush/flow medium as an under painting, although matte colours tend to make a better surface for oils. My only concern with using watercolour is that it is remains water-soluble unlike acrylics that eventually dry permanent.

Lastly, as far as experimenting goes, have you tried watercolour over oil pastels?! It adds a very interesting effect as the pastels resist the water colour – so you get this really interesting texture and play on colour.

EDIT: I don’t remember if I heard you sealing the water colours before applying the oils. I love the use of colours by the way.

Beautiful work! At minute 11:10 I was so SCARED watching you put the tape on her face!!! I thought, there's no way that oil paint is dry right?!?! Lol, I read you are using a fast drying medium, I really need to check that out. I was discouraged by oil painting a long time ago because of how long it took to dry and the care it took to keep dust out of it during the days or weeks it was wet to the touch.

It honestly shocked how you make things. It's so magical, beautiful, one second it's nothing then it's a work of art. I really wish I could do that. I draw but it's nothing special :/

I once thought about combining these techniques, but I had no idea how to seal the watercolor so that it is possible to paint with oils. Thanks for the tutorial! I'll try it! You have inspired me 🙂
