I found your explanations verging on the spiritual. I set my materials aside to listen only to what you were saying. Putting to rest my numerous doubts, unasked in the questions. I've liked art videos before, but yours surpasses them all. A million thanks. 🙏🙏🙏

Fabulous video! I’m wanting to learn to oil paint and just started watching videos on how to do it. This was so honest and encouraging. Thank you!

Je me sens motivée pour peindre maintenant, ça fait un bon moment que je n'ai rien tenté tellement je me sens découragée. Merci Florent!

"Your job as an artist is to make giant sweeping mistakes" – best advice I ever received from my professor.

A contributing point in harmony with your point to have fun and which I have to remind myself off: try not to just make a technical painting, try to add things, little gems, things you love. A quirky or favorite colour, some off balance elements, just try to add things that 'll give you a pleasant feeling. Most of the time these appear in your brain as a hunch, they pop up, and normally you think "well, I shouldn't do this, because it's not what the object shows". And that's probably the thing you should definitely do. Because that's the stuff that makes your painting a unique painting, your own painting.

Let go of outcomes and there are no mistakes in art making. Just playing with abstraction acrylics. Learning so so much about composition. I have been spending five hours a day overworking paintings and painting straight over the top of the previous work. Am learning so much. Nothing says we have to always paint with the same medium.

Thank you for such insightful tips. You said some things I was concerned about and your video has helped me relax. I've been experimenting with various tutorial artists, and I find I always come back to one specific technique while painting. So relaxing and knowing that this is my personality will help me not worry about how everyone else paints, but gear my paintings to my own personality. Thank you so much for your helpful video!

This was super helpful, thank you. I'm just starting out, and finding good (read: non-gimick-y) introductions on the basics was touch & go for a while there. I got a lot of of this.

60 years ago we used gasoline to clean our brushes. It was cheaper, wasn't toxic and dried fast. We even used it to thin paint. By morning the paint on the canvas was dry no matter how thick or how many layers applied.
We even washed our painting cloaks abs towels in gasoline before we'd rinse then wash them proper. Remixed all paint no matter how dried up or rubbed in. But then again we had brains. We didn't claim ethanol destroyed the ozone therefore we must pay more to have it removed from gas then pay extra to have it put back in.
We didn't pretend looking yourself in a safe space saved your life and we knew removing all bacteria would kill you by weakening your immune system. Cracks me up that people aren't living any longer today than ever before. Even the ancient Egyptians lived to be 100. The difference, we categorize our deaths to make it appear statistically that life expectancy is longer. Whereas they just did dead is dead. Didn't matter how they did, they are dead.
